Steering committee identifies key goals of DORA
A final ordinance to establish a downtown Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, or DORA, in Rochester has been shared with the city council for review. First and second readings are to occur at the council's next meeting, 6 p.m. Nov. 26 at Rochester City Hall, with a third reading and vote set for the council's meeting in December.

Text-to-911 enables direct access to emergency services for those who are deaf or speaking-impaired, having a medical emergency that prevents them from being able to speak, or in a situation where making a voice call would put them in danger. Citizens are now able to send text messages in their native language directly to 911 for help.

Tippecanoe Valley School Board approves raises for teachers
TVSC teachers will be receiving a raise in pay, thanks to an annual contract with the Tippecanoe Valley Teachers' Association that was approved by school board members during a special meeting on Monday. Raises range from a $400 to $2,400, depending on the teacher's degrees and their time spent working at the school corporation.

Child molester sentenced to prison again
Joshua L. Caudill, 26, of Logansport, has pleaded guilty to two counts of child solicitation and been sentenced to two consecutive 5-year sentences. He also admitted to violating the terms of his probation for a 2018 conviction of child molesting.

Fulton County jury finds man guilty of child molesting
Christopher S. Steinert, 34, of Rochester, was found guilty of child molesting Thursday. He was subsequently remanded into custody without bond to await sentencing, which was set for 3 p.m. Nov. 20 in Fulton Circuit Court.

Chief Menominee monument a reminder of Native Americans forced removal 186 years ago
It's been 186 years since the forced removal of Native Americans from Indiana, in what would later be dubbed the Trail of Death. The 17-foot tall granite statue of Chief Menominee in rural Marshall County was the first monument dedicated by the state of Indiana to Native Americans in 1909 and stands as a reminder of the Potawatomi presence the community once had.
