Luis Lara-Macias, 35, of Warsaw, faces a preliminary charge of money laundering, a Level 4 Felony, after being found in possession of $65,000 during a traffic stop in Kosciusko County.

A traffic stop in Kosciusko County that resulted in Indiana state troopers locating a large amount of U.S. currency led to a search warrant being served at a residence in Warsaw.

At approximately 4:34 p.m. Monday, a trooper with the Indiana State Police Bremen Post All Crimes Policing Team (ACP) stopped a white 2017 Dodge Ram for moving violations as it travelled northbound on State Road 15 near County Road 1350 North in Kosciusko County. During the course of the traffic stop, it was discovered that the driver, Luis Lara-Macias, 35, of Warsaw, was in possession of a large amount of U.S. currency, later determined to be more than $65,000.

Troopers continued investigation and ultimately served a search warrant at Lara-Macias’ residence in the 1700 block of East 300 North in Warsaw, just after midnight, with the assistance of officers from NET 43. As a result, troopers located a rifle, two handguns, approximately 3 ounces of suspected cocaine, a digital scale, fraudulent identification cards, an additional $3,600, as well as other paraphernalia associated with drug dealing.

Lara-Macias was transported to the Kosciusko County Jail on a preliminary charge of money laundering, a Level 4 Felony. All reports are to be turned over to the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
