Police say a man and woman were treated for knife wounds that were reportedly sustained in a domestic dispute near Winamac on Monday.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a domestic disturbance just east of Winamac on Monday, with a caller advising that a knife was involved and there were two victims with severe neck lacerations.

Pulaski County's Sheriff Chris Schramm, Chief Deputy Barney Rausch and Det. Sgt. Aaron Heims arrived first on scene and began addressing the complaint.

Police say a female had a laceration to her neck but was in stable condition. Law enforcement was directed downstairs, where a male was reported to be deceased. Upon getting downstairs, he was located and appeared unresponsive. Upon approaching to administer medical aid, he reportedly stood up and charged Rausch. He was then directed back to the ground. As attempts were made to treat the severe neck laceration, he continued to fight and kick responding officers.

As assistance arrived, the male was restrained, first aid was attempted and proved successful. He was stabilized and flown via helicopter to a higher echelon of care. Police say the female involved was transported to Pulaski County Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office wished to inform the community of the critical incident, but added it would not be releasing the names of the parties involved as investigation is ongoing and facts are still being determined.
