The Rochester Park and Recreation Department is having a callout for volunteers to help bring the upcoming Light Up the Park to life. Light Up the Park is a new tradition brought to the Rochester City Park this year with a holiday light drive-thru experience created by local businesses, organizations and residents that will be on display each evening from Dec. 14 to Jan. 4.

The Rochester Park and Recreation Department has sparked up a new tradition this year with Light Up the Park, a holiday light drive-thru experience created by local businesses, organizations and residents that will be on display from Dec. 14 to Jan. 4 at Rochester City Park each evening from 6 p.m. to midnight. For safety, traffic in the park is being reduced to a one-way driving path around the park, with the entrance and exit being on 13th Street near the baseball diamond. A lighting ceremony will kick off the event at the park on Dec. 14 at 7 p.m.

The Rochester Park and Recreation Department is having a callout for volunteers to help bring the idea to life. The event is free to participate in, with volunteers being needed to help decorate, manage and take down their own light displays. A Google Form is available for those interested in being a part of the event. Once the form is complete the participant will be contacted about assigning an available station in the park and potential decorating ideas.

Light stations will be throughout the park and will include pavilions, trees, the basketball court, and even the fence around Manitou Mountain. Station sizes vary by location, and electricity will be provided by the Rochester City Park, which will set up timers for the displays to light up each evening. Anyone who signs up is responsible for setting up, managing and taking down their station. Set-up days for the displays will be on Dec. 7 at noon and Dec. 16 at 6 p.m. Take-down deadline is Jan. 5 by noon.
