Bertha L. Teague, 88, of North Manchester

Bertha Lee Teague, 88, of North Manchester passed away on Jan. 7, 2025.

On May 3, 1936, Bertha was born in Humphreys County, Miss., in the small town of Louise to Warner and Alma Merritt Harris. While there, she attended Montgomery High School and eventually moved to Chicago, Ill., and started working for Phil-Maid garment maker for the better part of 20 years. After leaving Chicago, Bertha and her family moved to Delong, where she also attended Ancilla College and worked at Federal Mogul. While attending Ancilla, Bertha was well-known for her success in selling cashews, walnuts, pecans and other nuts for the Ancilla Alumni. Some of her fondest memories were with her coworkers at Federal Mogul; she truly enjoyed the people she worked alongside. 

Left to cherish Bertha's memory are her son, Charles Harris (Gerri Blackmon), of Waukee, Iowa; sister, Annie Jones, of Chicago, Ill.; daughter in every way that matters, Melody Smith, of Rochester; five grandchildren, Patrice Williams, of Dallas, Texas, Nicole Brubaker, of North Manchester, Kendra Smith (Terrell Pearson), of Greenwood, Danny Miles (Carin), of Indianapolis, and Travis Harris, of Indianapolis; three great-grandchildren, Nolan Brubaker, Rhys Pearson and Kora Pearson; nephews, Kenny Green (Lydia), of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Ezra Jones Jr. (Lisa), of Chicago Ill., Lenon Harris (Ann), of Rochester, Warner “CC” Harris (Amy), of Plymouth, Sheila Snipes, of Indianapolis, Dr. Amaze Jones, of Chicago, Ill., Christina Harris, of Hoover, Ala., Alvin Harris (Tanya), of Duncanville, Ala.; and many great nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Warner and Alma Merritt Harris; beloved husband, Ernest Teague; and six siblings, Ernest Harris, Lenon Harris, Warner Harris Jr., Cumming Earl Harris, Arneather Lee and Maple Snipes.

A celebration of the life of Bertha Teague is at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025, at the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester. Friends may visit with her family an hour prior to the service. Graveside services will follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Leiters Ford.
