April 20, 1964 – March 30, 2025

David D. Pitera, 60, of Culver, was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away on Sunday morning, March 30, 2025, at his home.  This followed a valiant battle with cancer.

On April 20, 1964, David Dean Pitera was born in Dearborn, Michigan. He was the treasured son of Walter and Patricia Schuck Pitera. Growing up, David was the second born. He shared his childhood with two sisters, Deb and Dawn. With great Eagle pride, David graduated with the Class of 1982 from Lakeland High School in White Lake, Michigan. He continued his formal education at Northwood Institute in Midland, Mich., to study business.

On Dec. 29, 1990, David married the love of his life and best friend, Miss Elizabeth Ann "Liz" Hope, at Saint Mary Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Milford, Mich.  Together they enjoyed over 34 years of life's adventures and from their union came a handsome son, Dylan.

In the early years, David was a real estate agent while he and Liz lived in Naples, Fla. Moving to Culver about 15 years ago, an entrepreneur David founded Shooter's Services.  He managed and maintained residential real estate properties in the Marshall County area.

An American sportsman with a love for the outdoors and adventure, David enjoyed snow skiing, golf and all types of boating on Lake Maxinkuckee to the Gulf of Mexico. He and Liz were passionate hockey fans and could be seen at Culver Military Academy's Henderson Ice Arena cheering Dylan on at the games. He later played at Bentley University in Waltham, Mass., and of course David and Liz were found in the stands at many games.

Left to cherish David's memory are his loving wife Liz; son David Dylan Pitera and companion Emily McGrath, of Boston, Mass.; two sisters, Deb Pitera, of Dallas, Texas, and Dawn Betrus, of Naples Fla.; mother Patricia Pitera, of Dallas, Texas; father Walt Pitera, of Naples, Fla.; father-in-law Donald L. Hope and wife Donna; brother-in-law Rick Hope and wife Belinda; nephew Michael David Betrus (wife Abegale); and his treasured canine companion Toewser, the English Creme Golden Retriever.
