Delores Ann [Gustin] Schuttrow, 81, of Rensselaer

Delores Ann [Gustin] Schuttrow, 81, of Rensselaer, was peacefully called home at 4:00 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2024 at Franciscan Health Hospital of Lafayette.

She was surrounded with love and memories, and the comfort of her son, Patrick, at her bedside.

She was born September 11, 1942 at the old Jasper County Hospital in downtown Rensselaer to the late Herman Cecil and Florence Caroline [Calhoun] Gustin. She grew up on a farm south of Francesville, surrounded by loving neighbors she treasured for the rest of her lifetime. While growing up, she played piano at the United Methodist Church of Francesville and taught Sunday School for 44 years at Methodist churches.

She was a 1960 graduate of Francesville High School. For eight years after graduating, she worked at Ryden Insurance Agency of Medaryville, IN as a bookkeeper and policy writer. She married Charles J. Schuttrow on June 15, 1968 at St. Henry Catholic Church in Medaryville. Charles preceded her in death on June 18, 2010. Their married life was spent in Rensselaer. Delores worked with her husband at the former Saint Joseph’s College of Rensselaer in the Public Information Department (News and Sports). She spent many hours, often seeing the sun come up, working with her meticulous attention to detail and dedicating her life’s work to precise accuracy and excellence. In later years, she completed her working career as an administrative assistant.

Delores was a member of the Richland Center United Methodist Church of Richland Center, IN. She also was a member of the General Van Rensselaer Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Fuller Society, Rev. John Corbly Association, and the Indiana Chapter of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants.

One of Delores’ most beloved memories was traveling during the Summer of 2023 to Plymouth, MA and throughout the Eastern United States visiting the monuments and seeing the waters from which her ancestors first arrived. Throughout her life, she greatly enjoyed visiting with relatives, spending time with her pets, working in her flower beds and various crafts, including working on projects for the Winamac High School Music and Drama Departments.

She is survived by her son, Patrick C. Schuttrow of Winamac; and Duard Honegger, Jr., Glenn Honegger, Virginia (Andrew) Honegger Fisher, Grace (Michael) Honegger Majewski; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents, Herman Cecil and Florence Caroline [Calhoun] Gustin and many Beloved Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.

Visitation will be from 4-8 PM EDT Monday, May 13, 2024 at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville with Pastor Steve Hartman officiating.

Burial will take place at Roseland Cemetery in Francesville.

Memorial contributions will be used to purchase a memorial bench which will be placed near the Winamac High School Auditorium. Please make checks payable to the Winamac Music Boosters with “Memorial Bench” in the memo line.
