Fred R. Jones, 82, of Argos

Fred R. Jones, 82, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2024, at St. Joseph Medical Center, Plymouth.

Born on May 1, 1942, in Logansport, Indiana, he was the son of Raymond and Faye (Jewett) Jones.

He attended Flora High School, graduating with the class of 1960. He graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1964 and from Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis with a Juris Doctorate degree in 1970. Fred was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 1970 and began his legal career in Plymouth, Indiana with the Law Office of Clifford A. Goodrich practicing general law and joined the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office in 1973. The Law Office of Clifford A. Goodrich would become the Law Office of Goodrich & Jones in 1973 when Fred became a partner with Mr. Goodrich. Over the years the Law Office of Goodrich & Jones has evolved and is now the law office of Jones Huff & Jones, LLP. Fred continued a general private practice and was elected Marshall County Prosecutor in 1982, 1986 and 1990. Since leaving the Prosecutor’s Office in 1994, Fred has continued his private practice.

Fred and Lois met as teenagers at the Indiana State Fair showing hogs, after which they would go their separate ways. On May 19, 1996, they reunited and he married Lois Ulery in North Manchester in her sister’s house by Judge Mike Cook.

Hardworking is just one adjective that describes Fred, from farming into the midnight hours to taking care of his clients at the office. Fred was a man that was meticulous. There was only black and white and his way most of the time was always right. Most that knew him would tell you that he was a man that appeared stern, as most attorney’s do, but had a tender heart, especially when it came to his grandchildren. Fred would never miss one of their events, lunch after church on Sundays, and dinner every Wednesday was a tradition that was most always kept. It always seemed that the lunch groups would somehow get bigger as the grandchildren would bring a friend and he took care of them too.

He enjoyed golfing at the Plymouth Country Club, fishing at Bull Moose Camp in Canada, hunting deer and ducks as well as reading a good book in his quiet moments. He was an avid Indiana Hoosier fan that rarely missed a game.

Fred and Lois attended Plymouth Wesleyan Church.

Fred is survived by his wife Lois of Argos; children: Scott (Jamie) Jones of Elk Grove Village, Il; Troy (Rhonda) Jones of Cutler, IN; Derek (Lisa) Jones of Plymouth IN; Shelby Jones of South Bend, IN; stepchildren: Susan Beery of Montoursville, PA; Sarah (Fransico) Diaz of State College, PA; Eric Johnson of St. Augustine, FL; Cindy (Brady) Main of Bremen, IN; 16-grandchildren, 5-great-grandchildren, brother Harry (Debbie) Jones of Cutler, IN, as well as several nieces and nephews.
