Frederic L. McSherry, 87, of Burket, passed with his wife by his side on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024 at his home.
Fred was born on October 25, 1937, in Warsaw, Indiana, to the late Wilbur L. and Helen (Hagans) McSherry. He attended Burket Schools until his senior year and graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1956. On June 1, 1956, he married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn J. Lackey, at the Palestine Christian Church. She survives.
Fred was a lifetime farmer, known for operating a large hog operation with dedication and pride. He was a respected Pork Producer who only slowed down when his health demanded it. Fred served his community with unwavering commitment, participating in the Kosciusko County Pork Producers and the State organization, and in earlier years he dedicated his time to the Burket Volunteer Fire Department.
As a longtime member of the Burket United Methodist Church, Fred served in many roles, offering his time and wisdom. He also contributed 17 years to the Tippecanoe Valley School Board, overseeing numerous projects and developments.
Fred was known for his even temperament and his ability to give his all to anything he was involved with. His sharp mind only needed to read something once to understand it. He cherished trips to Florida, fishing, and his family’s playful joke that he loved digging holes. But most importantly, Fred loved people and took immense pride in caring for his family.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years Marilyn McSherry of Burket; sons Kevin F. and wife Marsha McSherry and Keith A. and wife Shannon McSherry both of Burket; grandchildren Jason F. (Allison) McSherry, Sarah (Josh) Spangle, Ezekiel (Alexis) McSherry, Marissa (Cass) Thomas, and Kimber McSherry; Great Grandchildren Madelynn, Charles F. Elizabeth, Vivienne, Maxwell, Loganne, Lakanne, Garren, Gatlynn, Clancy, and Allen; and a brother C. Stephen and wife Diane McSherry of Mentone.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents and infant granddaughter Keisha.
Following his wishes a service will be held at a future date to celebrate his life.
