Frederick Richter, of Winamac

Frederick Richter passed away at Hickory Creek (Winamac), on Saturday, March 22, 2025.

Fred was born on February 7, 1938, in Paxton, FL to the late Helmut and Edna Janette (Parker) Richter. In 1962 he was married to Sandra Lee Watts who passed away in 2007.

Fred was a Winamac High School graduate of the class of 1956. He graduated from the Purdue University School of Engineering and was the former president of the SAE Fraternity at Purdue and stayed active in the fraternity for many years.

Fred served as a Captain in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1964.

Fred was the owner of Freddie Can Fix It in Winamac, and Monticello Tank in Monticello. He had worked at Plymouth Tube Co and Winamac Steel in Winamac.

Fred was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winamac, IN and was a former member of the Star City Lions Club and Kiwanis Club. He was an avid woodworker and was a member of the Tippecanoe Valley Woodworker’s Club. Fred enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1-5 PM EDT Thursday, March 27, 2025 at the Winamac Public Library 121 South riverside Drive in Winamac.

A Lions Club service will be held at 1 PM EDT Thursday, March 27, 2025 at the library.

Private Burial with military honors will take place at Winamac Cemetery (Southlawn Addition) in Winamac, IN.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Winamac, IN.
