Larry Robert DeWitt, 85, of Argos, passed away July 9, 2024, at 6:20 a.m. at Miller's Merry Manor, Plymouth, where he had been in declining health for several months.
On Oct. 10, 1938, in Argos, he was born to Howard W. DeWitt and Lorene Labelle (Hochstetler) DeWitt. He had lived in the Argos community all his life.
On Oct. 12, 1957, in Culver, at Poplar Grove United Methodist Church he married Ellen Arlene Smith and together they shared the past 67 years.
Larry worked for Lear Corp. for 63 years, retiring in 2022. He was a graduate of Culver High School Class of 1957, loved going to his grandchildren's sporting events and motocross races and was a faithful 4-H supporter.
Larry is survived by his wife, Ellen DeWitt, of Argos; daughter, Justine Sauer and husband Jay, of Plymouth; sons, Alan DeWitt and wife Kim, of Plymouth, Bart DeWitt and wife Maleta DeWitt, of Argos, Vernon DeWitt, of Argos, and David DeWitt, of Rushville; nine grandchildren, Corey Sauer and wife Ashlee, of Warsaw, Nathan Sauer, of Plymouth, Cindel Sauer and Adam, of Plymouth; Colten Sauer and wife Amanda, of Plymouth, Jenilee Mark and husband Shawn, of Argos, Lacy Scheutzow and husband John, of Fort Wayne, Derrick DeWitt, of Plymouth, Ryan DeWitt and wife Jasmine, of Plymouth, and Amber DeWitt and Ryan, of Warsaw; 30 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and brother, David DeWitt, of Rushville.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helen Osborn; and great-grandson, Bodie Alan Scheutzow.
His funeral service is at 1 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2024, at Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos, with Rev. Justin Chambers of New Song Church. Friends may visit with the family two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Culver Masonic Cemetery, Culver.
