Peggy A. Cope, 81, of Rochester 

May 12, 1943 – Feb. 25, 2025    

Peggy A. Cope, 81, of Rochester and formerly of Kentucky and Chicago, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 11:16 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025, at Woodlawn Hospital.

On May 12, 1943, Peggy Ann was born in Paducah, Ky., to Albert Frank and Reva Housden Coyle. Proudly, she graduated with the Class of 1961 from Reidland High School of Reidland, Ky. Later, she continued her education and earned a degree as a nursing assistant.

Shortly after high school, Peggy and Dorcas Lee Powell were married in 1961. He preceded her in death in 1989. Later she married Jerry Cope, who also preceded her in death. More recently, her longtime companion for nearly a decade, Dallas Thorne, preceded her as well.

As a homemaker, Peggy cherished the time with her family. Later in life she worked as a nursing assistant in the healthcare field. While in Kentucky, she worked at Walmart. Reading mysteries, novels and working word search puzzles were favorite pastimes and helped her stay sharp. She enjoyed watching cooking shows and liked to learn about and try out new recipes. She loved chocolate and peanut butter. Peggy was always on the hunt for elephants to fit into her unique collection.

Left to cherish the memories of Peggy are a daughter, Kimberly Grzegorski and husband Gene, of Rochester; five grandchildren, Megan Boss and husband Billy, Lauren Perez and husband Michael, Jordan Grzegorski, Bryan Salyers and wife Allison, Kyle Salyers and wife Erika; five great-grandchildren, Zoe Salyers, Alex Salyers, Reese Salyers, Miles Salyers, Michael Perez; sister, Reva Marie Moody, of South Bend; son-in-law, Tim Dossett; family friend Ala Romania; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding Peggy in death are her parents, husbands Dorcas Powell and Jerry Cope, daughter, April Dossett, son Jeffery Powell, brother Albert Frank Coyle Jr. in 1979, companion Dallas Thorne and brother-in-law Dewitt Moody.

Peggy’s life will be celebrated once she returns to Kentucky at a time to be announced in April 2025. With interment following in the Provine Cemetery in Benton, Ky.
