Peggy J. Paxton, a beloved soul, passed away peacefully at 6:49 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, at Logansport Memorial Hospital. She was 89 years old, and her departure leaves a profound sense of loss in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Born on Jan. 15, 1935, in Wabash, to Chester and Irene Bowers Houston, Peggy Joan grew up surrounded by love and values that would shape the kind, compassionate woman she became. Her life was a testament to the warmth and strength she carried, touching the lives of many through her kindness, wisdom and grace.
On March 19, 1956, Peggy married her true love, Howard C. Paxton, at the Church of Nazarene in Wabash. The bond they shared was a beautiful example of devotion and commitment. Peggy cherished every moment of the 45 years they spent together, a love story that now transcends time, continuing in the hearts of their family.
With a strong work ethic, Peggy worked in her younger years at Chamberlains of Akron then Robertson Transformer in Rochester. She also was a groomer, styling many canines hair. Peggy had a special talent with locating treasures at garage sales. Most recently she added spice and sass with a huge heart to her fellow residents at Chase Center, brightening their days.
Grandma Peggy was an amazing pie baker and cake maker, making the best chocolate cake on the planet. She looked forward to visits from her grandchildren and the greats, making many memories during special family events and at the holidays.
Peggy’s love and legacy live on in her children and their families, each carrying a piece of her spirit, including Shirley Grimm, of Rochester, Sandra Phan, of Lagro, and Donny Paxton with his wife Tammy, of Rochester, hold tight to the precious memories of their mother. Her many grand and great-grandchildren, too, were blessed to know her warmth and love, which will remain an eternal light in their lives.
Though she is reunited with her husband, parents, brothers, and sisters who preceded her in death, Peggy leaves behind a legacy of love, a reminder of the impact one life can have on so many. Let us honor her by remembering the warmth of her smile, and the deep love she held for her family.
