Don Richard Zimmerman, 82, of Kokomo, passed away 12:31 pm Monday November 18, 2024, at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. He was born in Muncie, IN, on December 25, 1941, the son of the late Palmer and Frances (Smith) Zimmerman. In June 1963, he married Joyce McGowan in Kokomo, IN, and she survives.
Don was a 1959 graduate of Kokomo High School. He proudly served our country in the United States Air Force and was Honorably Discharged. He was employed at the American Legion Post #6, Delphi Racing, and retired from Delco Electronics as a custodian. Don was a kind-hearted man with an amazing sense of humor. He always looked for ways to help others and make people laugh. He was a sports fanatic and cheered for the Indianapolis Colts, the Chicago Cubs, and Indiana University basketball. He was passionate about playing golf and achieved 6 hole-in-ones in his lifetime.
In addition to his wife Joyce, Don is survived by his children, Kevin (Colleen) Zimmerman, Rick Zimmerman; siblings, Steve (Bette) Zimmerman, South Carolina, Lynann Tigrett, Washington; grandchildren, Hannah (Nate) Hartwell, Kyle (Michelle) Zimmerman, Kelsey Zimmerman; great-grandson, Nolan Hartwell; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Palmer and Frances Zimmerman; siblings, Alyce (Jim) Wiles, John (Laquita) Zimmerman.
Military honors will begin at 1 pm on Saturday November 23, 2024, at the American Legion Post #6, 2604 S. Lafountain St., Kokomo, IN 46902. Military honors will be provided by the Kokomo VFW and the United States Air Force.
A Celebration of Life will follow the military rites until 3 pm on Saturday at the American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Don’s memory to the American Cancer Society. Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
