The deadline for submitting letters of intent is October 1.

Both organizations and communities are encouraged to apply for Indiana Department of Natural Resources Shooting Range Grants program that targets developing and expanding public rifle, handgun, shotgun, and archery ranges.

"Projects may include new range construction or expansion of existing range facilities. All grant-funded facilities must be universally designed to accommodate all people," a DNR spokesperson said. "Previously funded shooting range projects included installing new sidewalks, constructing new bathroom facilities, installing trap and skeet houses, and constructing a new modern archery facility."

The deadline for submitting letters of intent is October 1.

"The program, which is funded by the federal Wildlife Restoration Program, provides funding to increase public recreational shooting sports opportunities," Indiana DNR officials said. "A manufacturer tax on the purchase of ammunition, firearms, and archery equipment and the sale of hunting licenses is a primary funding source for conservation work led by the DNR Division of Fish & Wildlife."

Officials say grants are awarded based on the respective letters of intent and that applicants who are selected to receive the funding must provide 10 percent of the total project cost.

Letters of intent should be emailed to Sam Whiteleather at swhiteleather@dnr.IN.gov by October 1.
