A much discussed ordinance to govern the use of golf carts inside city limits is moving forward toward implementation.

The Lawrenceville City Council met Thursday and it was indicated by Mayor David Courtney that a final draft of the proposed legislation has come out of committee and has been given to council members for study and review.

New changes made would have to be approved by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) before its potential passage in May.

The mayor also updated the council on the status of court proceedings regarding the old Lawrenceville High School property.

The owner has been ordered by the presiding judge to remediate the property within 60 days.

It is possible that the owner could request an extension of time for completion.

A status hearing has been set for late May on the matter.

Three viable candidates are being considered to fill a vacancy on the Lawrenceville Police Department.

A firm timetable for selecting one by the Police Commission has not been set.
