The George Rogers Clark National Historic Park located in Vincennes has announced it will hold the 10th annual Henry Hamilton march.
On Saturday, December 21st, those interested will have the opportunity to participate in the event, which traces the footsteps of British Lt. Governor Henry Hamilton and his soldiers as they made their march to Vincennes in the year 1778.
After a long grueling march in winter conditions, they arrived at Fort Sackville in Vincennes on December 17th of 1778.
The march will begin at the park visitor center Saturday at 1 p.m. ET. Those taking part in the walk will the carpool to Kimmell Park (believed to be the spot where Hamilton's men disembarked from their boats). They will then hike the approximately 2 miles back to the Clark Memorial that symbolizes the path Hamilton took in 1778. Along the way, park officials will share the story of the British march and answer questions.
There is no charge to take part, but those who want to go are asked to register with the park. That can be done by calling (812) 882-1776, ext.1210.
People should wear comfortable shoes and season appropriate clothing for hiking.
