An area lawmaker is among those raising concerns over a proposal to eliminate road districts and townships in Illinois.
51st District Republican State Senator Chapin Rose spoke on the topic at a press conference in Springfield this week.
Rose warned that such a move could lead to higher property taxes and have negative consequences on vital services at the local level.
He added that while the move could lead to more efficiency in local government, it would force municipalities and counties to shoulder additional costs.
That could lead to many services being cut or eliminated at the local level, such as cemetery maintenence, snow plowing, road repairs among others.
Rose's district does include Lawrence County.
