Some sad news coming from the city of Sumner. A longtime fall tradition is being postponed for 2024. Mayor Betty Brian announced to the city council Tuesday night that the Fall Festival will not be held downtown this year. The reason is that the downtown area is currently undergoing some contstruction work with sidewalks and water lines and hydrants being replaced. The mayor indicated that holding the festival would expose the city to liability should anything such as an accident or personal injury occur. It is hoped that the festival returns in 2025. The council did receive updates on those improvement projects during their session. They did approve a three year contract with Shannon Woodard to continue as the city water-sewer operator through October of 2027. The city will also advertise for bids for a new garbage collection contract with the old agreement expiring in November of 2024.
