TATE BACK IN COURT

Former Lawrence County resident and convicted murderer Ray Tate was back in Wayne County court late last week.

The Hopkinsville, Ky man appeared via Zoom for a status hearing from the Menard Correctional Center where he is serving a life sentence without parole for the death of Wayne County Sheriffs Deputy Sean Riley in 2022. In 2023, Tate, acting in his own defence, filed an amended motion to withdraw his guilty plea. The Friday hearing last week concerned whether or not that motion was filed by the court imposed deadline. Tate maintains that he missed the response deadline of May 10th due to mail service being slowed by a lockdown at the prison. The prosecution indicated they would need time to look into the matter. The presiding judge then scheduled another status hearing for Tuesday, June 11th, at 1 p.m.
