A trial date has now been set in Clinton County, Illinois for Ray Tate. The Hopkinsville Kentucky man and former Lawrence County resident was in court this week and both Tate's public defender and the Clinton County States Attorney told the presiding judge that they were prepared for trial. Trial date is scheduled for Monday September 16th. Tate is charged with multiple counts of Aggravated Kidnapping, Home Invasion, Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Unlawful Restraint, Residential Burglary, Aggravated Possession of Stolen Firearms and Aggravated Battery. Those charges stem from a crime spree by Tate after he killed Wayne County Sheriffs Deputy Sean Riley in December of 2021 and fled the scene west into Missouri and then back into Clinton County where he was captured. He is currently serving a life sentence without parole for the Riley death.
