Former Lawrence County resident Ray Tate was back in court this week.
He made an appearance via ZOOM for a Clinton County Ill status hearing from the Menard Correctional Center in Chester, Ill.
Tate had plead guilty to a home invasion charge there after his capture and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
He has since filed a motion to withdraw that plea, citing coercion and ineffective legal counsel.
A public defender was assigned to represent Tate going forward by the presiding judge.
Another status hearing in the case is set for Wednesday, March 25th.
Tate continues to serve a life sentence for the December 2021 murder of a Wayne County Illinois sheriffs deputy
