Former Lawrence County resident Ray Tate made another appearance in court in Clinton County, Illinois.
He appeared via Zoom in his effort to withdraw his guilty plea to multiple charges there related to his capture after the death of Wayne County (Illinois) Sheriffs Deputy Sean Riley back in 2021.
Tate claims he was coerced into pleading guilty to the offenses after his capture near Carlyle while fleeing from authorities.
The presiding judge during the proceeding allowed Tate's new attorney, Van-Lear P. Eckert, to file an amended motion to withdraw the plea and set the matter for review on Wednesday, May 14th.
The Hopkinsville, Ky man remains incarcerated in the Menard State Prison in Chester serving a life sentence without parole for the murder of Riley.
He was also convicted and sentenced to 30 years for additional crimes in Clinton County.
