Alice Rosella Ayers, age 91 of Sumner, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. She was born September 5, 1931, in Olney to Logan L. Wagner and his wife Daisey (Judy) Wagner. In January of 1951, Rosella married Eugene Ayers. Throughout their 44 years of marriage, Rosella and Gene built a wonderful life together. Gene preceded her in death on September 23, 1995. Rosella graduated from BTHS, was a loving homemaker to her family, and worked at Bridgeport Grade School. She retired from BGS in 1991 where she was a cook for 19 years. She attended Island Free Methodist Church for many years until she was no longer able. She enjoyed sewing and quilting. Surviving family includes: two daughters- Marilyn Birkes and husband Darrell of Bridgeport and Cindy Wells and husband Glen of Bridgeport: two sons- Mike Ayers and wife Deb of Bridgeport and Stan Ayers and wife Barb of Bridgeport: nine grandchildren- Traci James and husband Jeff, Amanda Lukens and husband Aaron, Matthew McAdow and wife Amber, Jodi Hill and husband Charlie, Emily Davis and husband Corey, Amy Rodrick and husband Chauncey, Andrea Tully and husband Connan, Shane Ayers, and Shaundra Ayers: two step-grandsons- Dee and Lora Birkes and Chad and Kristal Birkes: thirteen great-grandchildren- Dalton and Mykala James, Garrett James and Meghan, Trenton McAdow and Madeline, Darian McAdow and Jack, Elias McAdow and Nell, Shelbi Lukens, C.J. Hill, Kendall Davis, Carter Davis, Seanna Rodrick and Spencer, Logan Rodrick, Saige Tully, and Elowen Willmore: 6 step-great-grandchildren (all Birkes)- Colby and Summer, Luke, Nicole and Devon, Haley and Cameron, Carson, and Ellie: three step-great-great-grandsons- Colton, Jackson, and Beau: a sister-in-law- Dorothy Longnecker: and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents- Logan and Daisey Wagner: her husband- Leonard Eugene Ayers: one brother- Francis Wagner: two brothers in infancy- Lewis Dean Wagner and Lester Devere Wagner: and one great-grandson- Keifer Lukens. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 11, 2023, at Cunningham Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery near Claremont. Memorial contributions can be made to the organization of the donor’s choice.
