Bertha Grace Mahrenholz, age 102, of rural Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at Gentle Care Nursing Facility in Vincennes, Indiana.

Bertha Grace Mahrenholz, age 102, of rural Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at Gentle Care Nursing Facility in Vincennes, Indiana. She was born on June 26, 1922 in Vincennes, Indiana, the daughter of Jack and Bertha (Henderson) Fortner. She married Glenn H. Mahrenholz on November 02, 1941, and shared 74 years of marriage together.

Grace was a farmwife and farmed with her husband, Glenn for many years. Together they enjoyed raising their family, gardening, raising flowers and produce. Her memberships include Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Vincennes, Indiana, where she was very active, and a 50 plus year member of Sand Ridge Home Extension. Glenn and Grace were very active in Lawrence County 4-H, the Camper’s Group, and the Square-Dancing Group. Over the years she hosted many dinner parties for their friends and family.  

Preceding Grace in death were her parents; three sons: James, Stephen, and Doug; two grandsons: Bradley and J.D.; one great-grandson: Jesse; one great-granddaughter: Kiersten; five brothers: Ray, Bob, Tom, Kenneth and Carl; four sisters: Mary Sue East, Sadie Richardville, Beulah Godare, and Elsie Fortner.

Surviving are one son: Gene and wife, Judy Mahrenholz of rural Lawrenceville; six grandchildren: Lisa Archibald, Jim Mahrenholz, Amy Whitlock, Justin Mahrenholz, Jeremy Mahrenholz, and Kristen Hoey; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 11:00am CST at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation is also Thursday from 10:00am until the service hour of 11:00am CST at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Vincennes Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Vincennes, Indiana.
