Carolyn Gertrude (Buchanan) Lofft, age 80 of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 after a brief illness.
Carolyn Gertrude (Buchanan) Lofft, age 80 of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, went to be with her Lord onWednesday, September 18, 2024 after a brief illness. She was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on October 2, 1943, to Warner Knight “Jack” Buchanan and his wife Hilga (Van Holstyn), while Jack was overseas with the United States Army Air Corps. Once her father returned from the war, the family returned home to Lawrenceville, Illinois where Carolyn grew up on the family farm. She contributed on the farm with her brother and sisters, spent lots of time with her adored aunts, learned to sew from her mother, gained an interest in aviation from her father, and from both parents developed a great love of the Lord. After graduating from Bridgeport Township High School, Carolyn attended Vincennes University. Beginning in 1964, she worked as a flight attendant for Delta Airlines.She enjoyed a very special trip around the world with her parents in 1966.
Carolyn was married to Robert Wayne Boyd from 1967 to 1976. They welcomed their son, Warner Elkins Boyd, on Mother’s Day 1970 in Watseka, Illinois. Carolyn was married to Christopher Lofft from 1989 to 2016. Carolyn and Chris lived together in Central Florida, South Carolina and South Florida.
In the late 1980’s into the early 1990’s, Carolyn worked as an accomplished seamstress and upholsterer. She studied Shaolin Kempo with Kung Fu for four years and completed her black belt in 1989. She graduated Cum Laude with her Bachelor’s Degree with concentration in Social Welfare from at Barry University in Miami, Florida in 1997. After completing her degree, she moved into a career in the mental health community. Carolyn later devoted her time and energy to caring for her ailing mother.
Carolyn was a voracious reader who always had library books at hand, enjoyed fashion and her family loved her amazing pies. She loved the Florida Keys and her family’sannual winter trip to Palm Beach County, Florida. Her grandsons will remember her willingness to get on the floor to play or read to them, her kindness and gentle hugs.
Surviving family includes: one son- Warner Elkins Boyd and his wife Meghan of Jupiter, Florida; one brother- Warner Daniel “Danny” Buchanan and wife Dotty of Lawrenceville, Illino
She was preceded in death by her parents- Warner Knight “Jack” Buchanan and Hilga (Van Holstyn) Buchanan.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 25th, 2024 at 10 AM, weather permitting at Buchanan Cemetery south of Lawrenceville. Cunningham Funeral Homes will be assisting in arrangements.
