Christy Sue Flanders, age 67 of Lawrenceville and formerly of Sumner, passed away at her home Tuesday, December 17, 2024. She was born a Christmas Day baby in 1956 to John William Sumner and his wife Margaret Viola (Jones) Sumner.
After graduating from Red Hill High School, Chris married the love of her life, Mark Allen Flanders, on September 24, 1976. Mark unexpectedly passed away on July 17, 2002. Together they had one daughter, Bobbi Jo. She truly was the center of their world. Chris devoted her time to getting Bobbi Jo to anywhere and everywhere she needed to be and loved it. You could always hear Chris voicing her “encouragement” from the stands at Bobbi Jo’s games.
She was a homemaker to her family of three and enjoyed staying close with her siblings. After Mark’s passing, she worked at the Lawrenceville Wal-Mart in the Pharmacy Department and then in the Lawn and Garden Department at the Vincennes Lowes. If you knew Chris, you know that she loved her animals. She always had a cat or dog…or both…in her home to love on. She enjoyed spending time landscaping when she able and working online puzzles and word searches.
