Daniel Dewight Barker, age 77 of Vincennes, IN, passed away at his home with loved ones by his side on Saturday, March 15, 2025. He was born July 12, 1947, in Mt. Carmel, IL to James Dewight “Bud” Barker and his wife Mary Esther (Breen).
On May 23, 1992, Dan married Mary Alice Anderson. They cherished their 32 years of marriage together and made the most of their love and time.
Dan was a member of the Wayman Chapel Church of Lyles Station. He enjoyed fishing, being out in nature, sharing his faith, ministering to all, and was an ordained minister. He was truly a man of faith and had a passion for sharing the word of God. His family was a priority…savoring every opportunity to be together.
Many knew him as “Pops”. He was always willing to give a kid his time and attention. That was evident as he and Mary were house parents for a group home in Switz City, IN. The number of lives touched and affected by Dan are innumerable.
Along with being an ordained minister and a house parent, Dan was in the insurance industry for 20 years. He also was a founding contributor for the Habitat for Humanity in Evansville, IN and a Boy Scout Leader. Dan helped spearhead the formation of the Tiger Cubs Troop in Evansville, IN as well.
Those remaining to carry on Dan’s legacy of love and faith includes: his wife- Mary Alice Barker of Vincennes, IN: his mother- Mary Esther Henson of Vincennes, IN: nine children- David Barker of Little Rock, AR; Tim Barker and wife Ann of Elberfeld, IN; Laurie Melvin and husband Bill of Otwell, IN; Will Osborn of St. Petersburg, FL; Troy Burghard and wife Dawn of Evansville, IN; John Gross and wife Gayle of Evansville, IN; Paul Gross of Evansville, IN; Randy Morelos and wife Pam of Evansville, IN; and Andy Wood and significant other Sheryl Sanders of Evansville, IN: fifteen grandchildren: ten great-grandchildren: two great-great-grandchildren: and many beloved extended family members.
Dan was preceded in death by: his father- James Dewight “Bud” Barker; step-father- Paul S. Henson; and one brother- Don Barker.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at the Cunningham-Young Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, IL from 12:00 p.m. (CST)/1:00 p.m. (EST) until 2:00 p.m. (CST)/3:00 p.m. (EST) with funeral services following immediately at 2:00 p.m. (CST)/3:00 p.m. (EST). Burial will take place in Allendale Cemetery of Allendale, IL.
