David E. Hammel, age 64, of Bridgeport, Illinois, passed away on Friday, February 02, 2024 at home following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was the son of Otis and Janice (Bundy) Hammel. He married Jean James in July of 1985, and she survives. Dave worked hard in the lawn care business for many years. He was a skilled woodworker, gardener, and beekeeper. He attended the SonRise Community Church in Bridgeport; and showed a great deal of love, support, and commitment to his family, friends, and community. Preceding him in death were his parents and brother-in-law, Wilfred ‘Butch’ DesJardin. Survivors include his wife, Jean; two daughters, Jordyn Hammel and Madalyn Hammel; two siblings, Doug and Jeanette Hammel and their family and Denise DesJardin and her family; along with several extended family members. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 11:00 AM CST at the SonRise Community Church, located at 567 Church Street in Bridgeport, Illinois. The family extends an invitation to join them after the service for a meal. Memorial donations may be made to Chemo Buddies at Ascension St. Vincent Cancer Center Evansville or the Lawrence County Humane Society.
