Freda Mae Black, age 98, of Vincennes, Indiana, a former Lawrenceville, Illinois resident, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024 at the Gentle Care Nursing Home in Vincennes, Indiana. She was born November 09, 1925 in Lawrence County, Illinois, the daughter of Archie and Daisy (Herring) Fornshell. She was married to James William Patrick, and he preceded her in death in 1950. She then married George H. Black, and he preceded her in death in 1986. Freda worked at Lawrenceville Industry’s and Blacks Jewelry Store. She retired from Wal-Mart, after twenty years in the jewelry department. She was a member of the Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church. Her children will remember her devotion to her family, she was gracious and an inspiration to them. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, James William “Bill” Patrick and George H. Black; one son, George H. Black; three brothers; four sisters; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren Survivors include five daughters, Edith Mae Martin of Murray, Kentucky, Sandra Kay Cunningham and husband, Darryl of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Phyllis Rae Tyler of Metarie, Louisiana, MaryJo Ellen Desser and husband, Tim of Lafayette, Indiana, and Vanessa Jean Black of rural Lawrenceville, Illinois; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 31, 2024, 1:00 p.m. CST at the Emmons-Macey ; Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois, and may be viewed with the following link: www.facebook.com/emmonsmaceysteffey. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour of 1:00 p.m CST at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.
