Jack Smith, age 92, of Bridgeport, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on May 09, 1931 in Pontiac, Michigan, the son of Ida (Clark) Smith Leighty and step-father, Leroy Leighty. He married Barbara Clodfelder on November 24, 1972, and she survives. Jack was an operator for 29 years for Union Carbide, that later became Graftech in Robinson, Illinois. He was a member of the Illinois National Guard in Lawrenceville, as well as the VFW. He cut firewood for years, and him and Barb made generous contributions from the proceeds to Wish Upon a Star, where they were on the Board of Governors. They sent many children to Disney World, and were even fortunate to escort one of the families. Preceding him in death were his parents and two step-brothers, Wayne Smith and Kenneth Smith. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Kay Boren and husband Mark of Lawrenceville, Illinois; two grandchildren, Jennifer Boren Dennis and husband, Jordan and Mark ‘Scooter’ Boren, Jr. and wife, Susan; and three great-grandchildren, Kaylee Johnson, Alli Johnson, and Rosemary Boren. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, December 01, 2023 at 1:00 PM CST at the Emmons-Macey ; Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM CST at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
