
Jackie Lee “Jack” Harmon, age 79, of Sumner, Illinois passed away Friday March 28, 2025 at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Jackie Lee “Jack” Harmon, age 79, of Sumner, Illinois passed away Friday March 28, 2025 at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born December 13, 1945 in Olney, Illinois the son of Robert and Betty (Shank) Harmon. On August 21, 1968 he married Verna Mae Lanter. She survives.
Jack had worked at Hutchinson’s Filling Station in Sumner, Illinois. He then purchased Clifford Brian’s Filling Station and reopened as Jack’s Repair Shop servicing the area over the next 30 years. He served on the Christy Township Fire Department for 44 years and served as Fire Chief for a year. He was a member of the Congregational Christian Church in Sumner, Illinois. He was also a member of the Sumner Masonic Lodge. Jack was an avid fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Along with his wife Verna Mae, he is survived by two sisters: Sherry Loudermilk of Oaktown, Indiana, Patricia Williams and her husband Sam of Oaktown, Indiana and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday April 2, 2025, at 2:00pm at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois. Visitation is also Wednesday from 12:00 until 2:00pm at the funeral home. Masonic Rites will be conducted at 11:30am. Burial we be in the Mound Cemetery in rural Oblong, Illinois.
Memorial donations may be given to the Lawrence County Cancer Resource Center and Wig Shoppe or to the Christy Township Fire Department.
