James M. “Jim” Potts, age 88 of Bridgeport, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Bridgepointe Health Campus of Vincennes, IN.

James M. “Jim” Potts, age 88 of Bridgeport, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at
Bridgepointe Health Campus of Vincennes, IN. He was born in Bridgeport at the family home on
March 9, 1936, to Malcolm and Lena (Pierson) Potts.


Jim had married Martha Magee, and she preceded him in death on September 30, 2009.


As a young man, Jim served his country as a member of the United States Army and was
stationed in Germany during the Cold war Era. Upon coming home, he became a father to
Stephen and Michael and began his career.


He worked for Marathon Oil in Bridgeport until 1992. He then started his own company doing a
variety of things. You would commonly see him driving his dump truck, hauling rock,
landscaping for others, tilling gardens, and just about anything he was asked to do.


He attended the Old Cathedral Catholic Church in Vincennes, IN, was a former member of the
American Legion, and a 32 nd Degree Mason out of the Bridgeport Masonic Lodge.


Family remaining to carry on Jim’s legacy include: his two sons- Stephen Potts and wife Peggy
of Marshall, IL and Michael Potts of Bridgeport; four grandchildren- Staci Millman of Florida,
Matthew Potts and wife Melissa of Lawrenceville, IL, Justin Potts of Cisne, IL, and Jamie
Loudermilk of Bridgeport, IL; several great-grandchildren; and his nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by: his parents- Malcom and Lena Potts; his wife- Martha Potts; and
seven siblings- Walter Potts, Juanita Barnhart, Josephine Grahm, Mary Beal, Phillip Potts,
Chester Potts, and one brother in infancy.


Services for Jim are private with burial in Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Cunningham Funeral
Home of Bridgeport is handling the arrangements.
