Janet Kay Ulrich, 85, of Sumner, Illinois passed away Saturday August 19, 2023 at Emerald Glen Assisted Living in Olney, Illinois. She was born June 9, 1938 in Vincennes, Indiana the daughter of Marion X. and Nettie Bell (Williams) Piper. On February 14, 1960 she married Charles Ivan Ulrich. He preceded her in death on May 23, 2006. Janet worked for the phone company in Olney, Illinois after graduating high school. She then attended cosmetology school and then owned and operated her own beauty shop in Sumner, Illinois. She also worked for several different florists designing for all kinds of occasions. She also sold Avon cosmetics. She later stayed home helping with the operations of the family farm. She was a member of the Beulah United Methodist church and the United Methodist Women in Sumner, Illinois. She also served on the election board. She was a member of Home Extension in early years. She was a devoted worker at the Sign of the Kingdom West. She loved her family and all their endeavors and accomplishments. She treasured her church and church family. Janet had a love for flowers. She enjoyed attending lots of concerts, going on trips, and dancing with special friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her great joy. Janet enjoyed and was a devoted card sender to people for encouragement. Surviving are two sons: Bradley C. and wife Joni Ulrich of Sumner, Illinois, Terry A. Ulrich of Sumner, Illinois, a daughter: Julie and husband Bill Morris of Sumner, Illinois, five grandchildren: Jessica Wellbrook and husband Tom, Billy Edmonds and Tiffany, Derek Morris, Lori Lockhart and husband Trevor, and Andrew Ulrich, and four great-grandchildren: Hunter and Emma Edmonds, Marabelle and River Lockhart, and sisters-in-law Blanche Piper of Sumner, Illinois, and Millie Ulrich of Newburg, Indiana, and by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers: Jack C. Piper and Jerry Mack Piper, a sister: Marion Jean Engledow, and three grandchildren: Melissa Ann Fiscus, Sierra Brooke Purcell, and Hayden Wyatt Webster. The funeral will be Thursday August 24, 2023 at 10:00am at the Beulah United Methodist Church in Sumner, Illinois. Burial will follow at the Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery in Claremont, Illinois. Visitation is Wednesday from 5:00 until 7:00pm at the church. Memorial donations may be given to the Beulah United Methodist Church.
