Joseph John Novsek II, age 83, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023 at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville, Illinois. He was born on May 29, 1939 in Cardale, Pennsylvania, the son of Joseph and Rose (Sobrieski) Novsek. He married Hanora Ruth Nolan on April 08, 1961, and she survives. Joe was a welder and a professional football player. He worked for Sheehan Pipe Line Construction Company for 40 plus years. He was a very active member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church and the Jaycees. He enjoyed hunting, walking, and attending sporting events of his children and grandchildren; but most of all, faith and family were the most important to him. Preceding him in death were his parents; one infant son, Michael Novsek; and one brother-in-law, Frank Coppolino. Survivors include his wife; four children, Joseph (Kay) Novsek of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Doug (Cheryl) Novsek of Evansville, Indiana, Deb (Tom) Nichols of Haubstadt, Indiana, and Julie (Mike) Burnor of Evansville, Indiana; one sister, Dolores Coppolino of Brownsville, Pennsylvania; one brother-in-law, Jim (Pam) Nolan of Lawrenceville, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Nathan (Alison) Novsek, Jordyn Novsek, Julia Ruth Nichols, Sydney (Carson) VanDorn, Derek Novsek, Elizabeth Nichols, and John Burnor; and three great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at 12:00 PM CDT at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church, located at 1006 Collins Avenue in Lawrenceville, Illinois 62439. Visitation will be on Thursday from 9:30 AM until 11:30 AM CDT at the Emmons-Macey ; Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Memorial donations may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the Monday Morning Breakfast at St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
