Lesley Ann Lawson August 22, 1966 – March 27, 2025
She was a funny little girl who never saw a stranger, speaking to every customer at McKim’s IGA from her perch in the cart. She attended Mrs. Smith’s Day care while mom worked. She loved Mrs. Smith. Time passed and she began school. She graduated from Parkview Jr. High School, Lawrenceville High School and Indiana State University.
After graduation from college, she worked for a few years as an au-pair for an attorney in Florida. One day while visiting a local mall she saw an ad in a store window for a new hire at “Barnes and Noble coming soon” in Gainesville FL. She applied, was hired and remained there until Barnes and Noble started closing stores. The Gainesville Store was one of them. She had worked there 20 years. She then went to the University of Florida and worked in the transportation department until her health began to fail.
She is survived by her mother and stepfather Ann and Paul Umfleet of Lawrenceville IL, her aunts and uncles John and Susan Gher of Lawrenceville IL and Nancy and Gary Bryant of Orlando FL and John Leek of Orlando FL. She is also survived by numerous cousins and stepsister Megan Beshear and her family of Princeton IN.
She is preceded in death by both sets of grandparents.
Lesley battled breast cancer for 10 years with the aid of the American Cancer Society and many other research organizations.
