Mary ‘Josephine’ Fleming, age 86, of Sumner, Illinois passed away on Monday, January 02, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. She was born on March 10, 1936 in Petty Township, Illinois, the daughter of Marion Leslie and Gertie (Dunlap) Shidler. She married Homer Lynn Fleming on March 27, 1953, and he preceded her in death on July 16, 2004. Josephine was a nurse, as well as a homemaker. She worked at Pine Lawn, United Methodist Village, and Lawrence Crawford Association for Exceptional Citizens. She was a member of the Bridgeport Free Methodist Church. Her hobbies included crocheting, sewing, cooking, and baking. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; two brothers; one son, Jerry Fleming; and one grandson, Dalton Hightshoe. Survivors include five children, David Fleming of Newton, Illinois, Joseph Fleming and wife, Dawn of Sumner, Illinois, James Fleming and wife, Julie of Sumner, Illinois; Sue Noel of Sumner, Illinois, and Becky Ray and husband, Gail of Owensboro, Kentucky; one brother, James Shidler of California; one sister, Janet McKimmey of Lawrenceville, Illinois; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 07, 2023 at 11:00 AM CST at the Bridgeport Free Methodist Church, located at 473 East Chestnut Street in Bridgeport, Illinois 62417. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00 AM CST until 11:00 AM CST at the church. Burial will be in the Sumner Cemetery.
