Patricia Carol Dutton

Area Obituaries

Patricia Carol Dutton, age 81, was born in Vincennes, IN on October 13, 1942, to Jack Carroll Gray and his wife Rena Patrick Young Gray. Pat passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Hillside Manor Nursing Home of Washington, IN. Pat graduated Bridgeport Township High School in 1960. After high school, she was employed in the office of Reynolds Spring in Vincennes. On February 26, 1961, she became the bride of Lawrence Deldon “Larry” Dutton who survives. Pat’s great desire to be a mother was fulfilled with the birth of sons on November 21, 1961; April 30, 1964; and May 7, 1968. She was offered meaningful employment when her first son was 7 months old. Although additional income was certainly needed, Pat and Larry decided, and never regrated, that she would be a stay-at-home mother. She is survived by: her husband of 62 years- Larry Dutton: three sons- Jon Carroll (Jennifer) Dutton of Lawrenceburg, IN; Todd Patrick (Kristy) Dutton of Ft. Meyers, FL; and Randal David (Kim) of Florence, AL: three grandsons- Dallas (Hannah) Dutton, Tyler Dutton, and Zachary Dutton: three granddaughters- Andrea (Cory) Dehler, Brette (Brad) Smith, and Katy Dutton: three great-grandsons- Chris Dutton, Conner Dutton, and Iaian Smith: five great-granddaughters- Sophia Kelly, Tessa Dehler, Mea Dehler, Anna Smith, and Evelyn Smith. After raising three sons, Pat certainly enjoyed shopping with the three granddaughters. She and Larry greatly enjoyed attending their sons’ and grandchildren’s ball games and other activities. She had greatly desired to be a mother…and what a wife, mother, grandmother, housekeeper, office manager, and cook she was! Evening meals were always at the dining area table and invariably, with never a prompting from Larry, she heard a “that was good Mom” from one or more sons. Her New Year’s Day bagels and Super Bowel Sunday big, soft pretzels were eagerly looked forward to. She remained a stay-at-home mom until being Larry’s right arm in his business from 1977 until retiring. Pat was an active member of Delta Theta Tau where she was a Past President and member of the skit presented at a national convention. In retirement, she and Larry traveled extensively. They primarily traveled to the Eastern states visiting many historical sites and areas of interest…and more air shows than were on her bucket list. Pat greatly enjoyed playing golf with Larry and then with the ladies at the Lawrence County Country Club until failing health ended the golf and travel. Pat was a long-time and active member of Lawrenceville Central Christian Church serving several years as financial secretary and working the early years of Kid’s Shopping Day. No woman has ever been loved more than Pat was loved by Larry. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at the Lawrenceville Central Christian Church. A visitation time will be held at the church prior to the service from 1:00 pm until service time at 2:00 pm. Cunningham Funeral Home of Bridgeport is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, it is asked that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association to further research efforts.
