Richard Earl “Rick” Talley, age 70 of Bridgeport, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, March 1, 2025.

Richard Earl “Rick” Talley, age 70 of Bridgeport, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, March 1, 2025. He was born in Lawrenceville on December 1, 1954, to Gerald Talley and Virginia (Walls) Smith.

 As a young man, Rick married Shirley Barrix. Through this union, they had a daughter, Pamela. On March 12, 1987, Rick married Barbara Davis. For more than 33 years, Rick and Barbara enjoyed their lives together until Barbara passed away on November 5, 2020.

After graduating from Lawrenceville Township High School, Rick served his country as a member of the United States Navy where he served as a Hull Technician on the USS Monticello. Upon returning home, he worked at Marathon Oil Company until it closed. He then became an independent Over-the-Road truck driver until he retired.

He was a former member of the Bridgeport American Legion and the Bridgeport Moose. He enjoyed drinking coffee with the guys, writing songs, playing guitar, and singing. Rick liked to shoot his guns…especially with his grandson, Curtis, and his bonus grandson, James. His family was very important to him and deeply cherished his time with his great-grandkids. He had always been a fan of racing and Dale Earnhardt, Sr.

Surviving loved ones include: two daughters- Pamela Talley of Texas and Stacy Williams and husband Ronnie of Elizabethtown, IL; two sisters- Gayla Creek and husband Gene of Du Quoin, IL and Barbara Taylor and husband David of San Marcos, CA; one brother- Robert Talley of Silverthorne, CO; one grandson-Curtis Thacker and wife Shania of Bridgeport; two great-grandchildren- Eastyn and Vidalia Thacker; his beloved dog- Coco; all of those whom he considered special friends; and his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Rick’s wishes were to have cremation take place. There are no formal services planned at this time. Cunningham Funeral Home is assisting the family during their time of loss.
