Robert Eugene Hobbs, age 77, passed away on January 6, 2025.
Robert Eugene Hobbs, age 77, passed away on January 6, 2025. Born on April 6, 1947, to Delmer and Wanda (Angle) Hobbs. He was a devoted husband to Sheryl Ann Davis, loving father to Lou Ann and Dave Robert Hobbs, and grandfather to Jase Robert Hobbs with whom he had a special bond. Bob and Sheryl were married on December 21, 1966, and just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.
Bob served his country in the United States Army and Vietnam War. He was a farmer for 30 years, worked at the Sumner Post Office for 23 years and coached basketball for 19 years at the Red Hill Middle and Junior High Schools. None of which were jobs for Bob, they were just another chance to work hard, meet new people and impact others.
Bob was a faithful servant of God and member of the Sumner Community Church, where taught Sunday school, served as usher and served on many committees. He also enjoyed volunteering at Sign of the Kingdom in Sumner.
Bob loved spending time with his family, friends and neighbors, and never met a stranger. He touched many lives with his friendliness, kindness and generosity. He was filled with gratitude and praying for others until the end.
He is survived by his wife, Sheryl of Adams, Tennessee; daughter, Lou Ann Hobbs of Raleigh, North Carolina; son, Dave and Sheila Hobbs of Adams, Tennessee; and grandson, Jase Hobbs of Adams, Tennessee.
A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 12:30 PM CST at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois. A visitation will be on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the service hour of 12:30 PM CST at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Sumner Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sumner Community Church or Sign of the Kingdom in Sumner.
