Ruby Katherine Houghtaling, age 91 of Sumner, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2023, at Aperion Care of Bridgeport. She was born June 9, 1932, in Lawrenceville to Marion E. Houghtaling and his wife Katie B. (Palmer) Houghtaling. She was a graduate of Bridgeport Township High School and went on to Walnut Ridge Baptist College and Georgetown Baptist College. She then worked for many years as a lab technician at Richland County Hospital. Ruby was a member of the Olney Southern Baptist Church and Shiloh Baptist Church. Ruby enjoyed her church family, flowers, and gardening. She also enjoyed taking pictures. She just seldom was in pictures as she was always the one taking the pictures. Surviving family includes: one brother- Omer Houghtaling of Sumner: two sisters- Jane Warford of Ekron, KY and Ruth Fye and her husband Dennis of Covington, IN: and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents- Marion and Katie Houghtaling: and three brothers- Marion E. Houghtaling, Robert Keith Houghtaling, and Roger Lee Houghtaling. A time of visitation will be held at the Shiloh Baptist Church from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2023. Funeral services will follow immediately at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will take place in Bridgeport City Cemetery. Cunningham Funeral Home of Bridgeport is in charge of arrangements.
