Velma Jean Collins, age 87, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, October 05, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana.

Velma Jean Collins, age 87, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, October 05, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. She was born on October 11, 1936 in Lawrenceville, Illinois, the daughter of Burrell and Irene (Waggoner) Fleetwood. She married Vanry Collins on December 30, 1995, and he preceded her in death on April 09, 2001.

Jean was a Licensed Practical Nurse for 38 years. She worked at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital, Deewood Nursing Home, Good Samaritan Hospital, and volunteered for Good Samaritan Hospice. She also sold Avon and Home Interior. She was a member of the Amazing Grace Church in Lawrenceville, and a 20-year member of the Bee Branch Church. She enjoyed fishing and camping with Vanry; and in later years going on her monthly sister outings to shop and eat out.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Burrell Lee Fleetwood and Earl D. Fleetwood; one daughter, Sherry Ferguson Gosnell; and one grandson, Lucas Gosnell.

Survivors include two daughters, Debi Ferguson McAdow of Bridgeport, Illinois and Terri Ferguson Hodges and husband, Russell of Lawrenceville, Illinois; three sisters, Lavern Inboden of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Cheryl Hall of Lawrenceville, Illinois, and Peggy Deem of Decker, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Cody Gosnell, Mia Gosnell, Jesse Cox, Angela Arnold, Travis Walton, Courtney Carter, and Joshua Carter; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and best friend, Reba Goble.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, October 09, 2024 at 11:30 AM CDT at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until the service hour of 11:30 AM CDT at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Lawrenceville Senior Citizens.
