William E. Fahr, Sr., age 92, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. He was born on January 29, 1932 in Hamburg, New York, the son of Elmer Henry and Florence (Meinke) Fahr. He married Peggy Lou (Sweeten) Gard on February 20, 1959, and she preceded him in death on May 03, 2008. He married Penny S. (Helman) Montgomery on April 14, 2012, and she survives. Bill served his country in the United States Marines, during the Korean War. He owned and operated Fahr Construction for 50 plus years, and was a volunteer for Salvation Army. His 50 plus year memberships included the Central Christian Church, where he was a church choir member, American Legion, and Eagles. He enjoyed gardening, as well as traveling to Europe and Central American several times. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Peggy; two sons, Roy Gard and Terry Ross Gard; and three sisters, Melva Pfitzinger, Eleanor Cornwall, and Marjorie LaVrey. Survivors include his wife, Penny; three children, Lou Ellen Bean and husband, Brian of Lawrenceville, Illinois, William E. Fahr II and wife, Susan of Lawrenceville, Illinois, and Cindy Thacker and husband, Phil of Chauncey, Illinois; one step-son, Brian Montgomery and wife, Lindsay of Kalamazoo, Michigan; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM CDT at the Central Christian Church, located at 303 Buchanan Drive in Lawrenceville, Illinois, and may be viewed with the following link: https://www.facebook.com/emmonsmaceysteffey. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the service hour of 11:00 AM CDT at the church. Burial will be in the May Chapel Cemetery, with military rites.
