Basketball Indians win Midwinter Classic

The Lawrenceville basketball Indians broke open a close game with pressure early and went on the beat the Red Hill Salukis 74-51 Tuesday night at Lawrenceville.

They led 19-13 after one quarter, but their trapping zone and man-to-man began to take its toll in the second and the hosts extended the lead to 48-24 at the half and 66-40 after three quarters enroute to their 12th straight win.

The 21-6 Tribe were led by Jayden Goff with 21 points, Maddox Pargin with 13 and Zander Cessna and Noah Wilson each with 10.

The 14-13 Salukis were paced by Avery Arbuckle with 16 points and Elijah Stitt with 12

The game was the annual Rotary Midwinter Classic and the only meeting between the two Lawrence County rivals this season.

Lawrenceville also captured the JV game 47-31 behind Blayton Gossett with 16 and Hunter Gray with 10.

Next up for the Indians is a return to Little Illini Conference (LIC) play Friday at Casey

The Salukis return to Bridgeport to host Robinson Friday.
