Basketball Salukis to play for MTC tournament consolation title

The Red Hill basketball Salukis still have a chance at hardware from the Midland Trail Conference (MTC) tournament.

Red Hill defeated Patoka-Odin 62-52 Wednesday in consolation bracket play at Webber High School at Bluford.

The 10-10 Salukis will face Wayne City for the consolation championship Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Pregame coverage is approximately 9:45 a.m. on GIANT fm Sports 99.3 WAKO.

Wayne City beat Cisne 63-28 in the other consolation semifinal to advance to Saturday.

Following a first round loss to Grayville that saw the Bison build a 17-point lead with a 22-9 third quarter it was the third quarter Wednesday that propelled the Salukis to a win. Red Hill outscored the Warriors 17-8 coming out of the locker room to turn a four point halftime deficit into a five point lead after three quarters, 40-35.

From there, the Salukis transition game ramped up even more with 22 fourth quarter points to defeat Patoka - Odin for the second time this season.

Head coach Brian Havill spoke with Johnny McCrory on the Rucker's Candy postgame report.

Marcus Davis scored 17 to lead the Salukis, including three 3-pointers. Ozzy Ash added 15 and Avery Arbuckle was also in double figures with 13. Abram Clark scored nine.

The Salukis made 14 of 18 free throw attempts.

Patoka-Odin's Tyler Huffman tied Davis for game-high scoring honors with 17. Teammates Landon Robb and Lincoln Roberts scored 14 apiece.

Championship semifinals are Thursday with Waltonville against Grayville at 6 p.m. and host Webber vs Woodlawn at 7:30 p.m.
