IHSA APPROVES 35 SECOND SHOT CLOCK

The IHSA Board of Directors has approved a recommendation from it’s basketball advisory committee to implement a 35 second shot clock in varsity girls and boys basketball.

The shot clock usage would beginning for state schools with the 2026-27 school year. Use of the shot clock for lower-level games will be determined by individual conferences and via mutual agreement by competing schools in non-conference games. The IHSA had allowed the experimental use of a shot clock in various tournaments and shootouts over the past two years. IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson says that the feedback received from coaches across the state was that it was time to embrace the use of a shot clock in varsity contests.
