INDIANS DOWN SALUKIS IN BASEBALL

In an early season Lawrence County high school baseball battle, the Lawrenceville Indians ran their record to 2-0 with a 9-2 win Tuesday afternoon over the Red Hill Salukis at the Tank Farm in Bridgeport. The Tribe jumped on top early with single runs in the first three innings and were never headed in the win. They scored 9 times on 8 hits and committed no errors while the Salukis were held to 2 runs on 7 hits and made four costly errors that contributed to the loss. Hayden Arbuckle had four hits and drove in the two Saluki runs with a two run homer in the third. For the Indians, Jack Patterson was solid on the mound going 4 1/3 inning allowing 2 runs on 5 hits with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk. Maddox Pargin shut the door with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief allowing just 2 hits and striking out 3 with no walks. Landon Sanders and Emery Ivers each had 2 hits for the Indians and Boston Gray drove in 2 for the victors. Garrett Moorehead started and took the loss for the 1-1 Salukis going only 2 innings. The Indians are idle Wednesday and will open the home schedule Thursday at Unit 20 Ballpark against Flora. The Salukis are off until Saturday when they host Woodlawn.
