The Lawrenceville Indians broke open a close game outscoring the Olney (Richland County) Tigers 17-6 over the fourth quarter to come from behind and win 59-49 Friday night in a clash of the top teams in the Little Illini Conference (LIC). The Tribe led 17-15 after one quarter and took a 31-27 halftime lead on a Landon Sanders 3 point half court buzzer-beater. But the host Tigers came roaring back in the third quarter and took a 43-42 lead into the final quarter before senior Bryant Jenkins took over and led the Indian charge down the stretch to the win. Jenkins shook off a rough start to finish with 25 points and was selected as the Indian MVP, Sanders was also outstanding on the night with 20 points and Maddux Pargin had a workmanlike 11 points for the Indians who are now 20-3 and have won three in a row. The Indians also have sole possession of first place in the LIC regular season standings at 5-0 while Olney drops to 5-1. The Indian JV remained undefeated as they won over the Tigers 53-35 behind Emery Ivers with 19 points and Jayden Goff with 14. The Indians have a short turnaround as they play Altamont Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Olney Central College (OCC). The game can be heard on Lite 103 WAKO.
