For South Knox, getting past the in-county dilemma of beating rival North Knox offered enough challenge. The Spartans whipped North by 29 in an early December meeting. North closed the gap but still fell to the Spartans in the sectional championship, 58-52.
South and North are ranked 1 – 2, respectively, in the 2A Sagarin.
South was 6 – 2 in the only eight games it played that were decided by nine points or less. Those two losses were to quality 4A opponents at the Hall of Fame Classic at New Castle over the holidays. On December 27, the Spartans lost by eight to Hamilton Southeastern and then dropped a 73-70 decision to Homestead.
Last weekend, unbeaten #1 (4A) Hamilton SE (26-0) defeated #3 (4A) Homestead (24-3) for a 4A regional title.
To advance, the Wolves will need to slow South Knox all-time leading scorer Ella Bobe. Bobe (19.2 ppg) accomplished that as a junior and now third in Knox County history at 1,693 career points, only trailing Makinzi Meurer of North Knox (1,750) and Grace Waggoner of Rivet (1,843).
Bobe also holds the all-time school record for assists. She has committed to play next season at Southern Indiana.
Bren Hill is a 6’0” forward closing in on 1000 points for her career.
