Indiana Automotive’s annual Talking Track event returns to Indiana Landmarks Center on April 3, when Al Unser Jr., two-time Indianapolis 500 champion, and Dave Wilson, veteran broadcaster, take the stage at Indiana Landmarks Center to chat about racing and track culture at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a National Historic Landmark.

Al Unser Jr., followed in the footsteps of his father and uncle to become a repeat champion at Indianapolis, winning the Indianapolis 500 in 1992 and 1994. A rookie in 1983, he was the first to compete against his own father in the same Indianapolis 500. In the 1992 race, he defeated Scott Goodyear by 0.043 seconds, the closest finish in Indy 500 history. Unser completed his 19th Indianapolis 500 in 2007, having logged seven finishes of fifth or higher, and currently holds ninth place in all-time “laps completed” standings (3,173). Among his more remarkable achievements, Unser won the challenging Long Beach, California, road race six times, including four years in succession, 1988 through 1991, and his career IndyCar Series wins total 34. He was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2009.

A Speedway native and lifelong Indy 500 fan, Indianapolis radio personality Dave “The King” Wilson served as a commentator on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network from 2003 to 2020, though fans may know him best for his time on the Bob & Tom Show (1983-1995), WIBC’s afternoon show (1995-2009), and his many years as a stand-up comedian appearing at venues and clubs across the country.

The talk is $10 for the public and free for Indiana Landmarks and Indiana Automotive members. Reserve a spot at indianalandmarks.org/event/talking-track-with-dave-wilson-and-al-unser-jr or by calling 317-639-4534.

Indiana Automotive, which sponsors the annual talk, is an Indiana Landmarks affinity group that welcomes members interested in early auto visionaries and the preservation of the cars they made, their factories, showrooms, and homes, and the landscaped parkways and roadside architecture birthed by the auto age.
